WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO PREPARE FOR CONFIRMATION

THE CEREMONY

The Confirmations will be held in St Peter Apostle Catholic Church, Guinane Avenue, Hoppers Crossing on Thursday 1st August at 7.00pm

PAYMENT

Please pay $15 for Confirmation costs to your child’s classroom. Place the money in an envelope with your child’s name on it and state what the payment is for. Payment is due by Friday 26th July.

CELEBRANT

The students will be confirmed by Fr. Joe Caddy, the Auxiliary Bishop for the Western Region.

ARRIVAL TIME

Candidates and sponsors need to arrive at school by 5.30pm, if they wish to have an individual photo taken. They may begin arriving no earlier than 5.15pm. Candidates and sponsors will meet in the Year 5 Learning Space when they arrive at school.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Candidates and sponsors may have photographs taken before the Mass with a professional photographer. Individual photos will be taken first, followed by a group photo.  All students need to be in the group photo. This will be taken at 6.30pm.

Photo envelopes detailing payment details need to be brought back on the day.

Photography or video recording is not permitted during the ceremony.  Please make your extended family aware of this.

DRESS CODE

It is essential that candidates and sponsors dress in a modest and appropriate way and their clothing needs to reflect the sacredness of this important religious sacrament. We ask for no denim and no runners please.

SPONSOR

Candidates require one confirmed, Catholic sponsor over the age of 16.  If possible a Godparent is appropriate. Parents are not permitted to be sponsors for their own children.  The sponsor sits next to the candidate.

At the time of Confirming, the sponsor hands the Confirmation card to the priest and then stands behind the kneeling candidate with his/her right hand on the candidate’s right shoulder.

CONFIRMATION CARD

Each candidate’s details are recorded via CareMonkey. The information provided is then transferred to a small card, which is handed by the sponsor to the priest.  The information is stored in our parish records. This information needs to be completed by Friday 26th July.

SEATING

Each student will be allocated one pew in the church for him/herself, the sponsor and the immediate family. Extended family will not have reserved seating.

PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES

Students will receive their certificates once they are confirmed.
