As part of the Grade 5 Geography unit, students will be learning looking at the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s educational unit ‘Helping Australia Shrink.’ Throughout this unit students will learn how the RFDS has helped communities to overcome the challenges caused by distance and remoteness, medically, educationally and socially, thus seeming to shrink these distances. To supplement our studies, we will be engaging in the Royal Flying Doctor Service educational incursion ‘Look! Up in the sky!’ whereby they will bring a full-size aircraft simulator to visit schools and teach students about the Flying Doctor’s role in keeping country Australians healthy. The Aeromedical Simulator is a life-sized replica of a Flying Doctor plane. Students will hear stories, land a plane in the outback, rescue a patient and most importantly, climb on board, strap themselves in and enjoy this unique experience.
