Parent Volunteering
At St. St Peter Apostle, we believe that for children to succeed there must be a sound partnership between home and school – both are seen as providing a vital and supportive environment for children.
Parents/carers are always welcome and are encouraged to actively participate in their children’s schooling in a variety of ways. These may include working in classrooms, attending excursions and camps, or participating and attending liturgical celebrations.
Information is shared with the school community through Compass and our newsletter which includes both school and Parish news.
If you would like to volunteer at our school you will need to complete the below Volunteer Application Form – you will then be contacted for an interview by our Leadership team
Working with Children Check
Working with Children Act 2005
The Working With Children Act 2005 (the Act) commenced in April 2006. The Working with Children Check is one of several measures organisations should put in place to protect children.
The Act establishes a framework to screen the criminal records and the professional conduct of people who intend to work with or care for children. People who pose an unjustifiable risk to the safety of children will fail the Check and are prohibited from working with children under the Act.
The protection of children is the paramount consideration for any decision made under the Act.
The Act defines the kind of work that is regulated as child-related work and lists the offences applicants are screened for.
The Act also exempts a range of people from the Check, including teachers registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT), as VIT also screens criminal records and professional conduct.
All Volunteers who wish to assist in our school or help on excursions are required to hold a valid Working with Children Check. This must be registered with the school office before volunteering to help in the classroom or on an excursion/sports activity.
All Volunteers are required to have their Working with Children Check with them, when they are onsite at the school.
School Advisory Council (SAC)
School Advisory Councils are an essential component of governing and operating Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. They provide a forum for consultation and participation for parish and school communities.
The councils are advisory and call on that part of our wider Catholic tradition that sees advice given in the framework of mutual respect, right relationship and hope: a foundation of our trinitarian faith.
The School Advisory Council plays a significant role in supporting the spiritual and educational welfare of students through its support of the principal as delegated authority of the MACS board – the governing body, and of the parish priest as custodian of mission.
Members of School Advisory Councils in all MACS schools meet high standards of community, group and individual behaviour, and appreciate, value and share the educational mission and ethos of the Catholic Church.
Through a process of discussion, deliberation and consensus, School Advisory Councils ensure advice is authentic and congruent with who we are and what we proclaim.
For more information about the School Advisory Council please see the MACS website or contact Karen Wilson
Community Events
What is the Parents & Friends?
The main objectives of the P&F is to encourage the participation of families in our school community to work in close co-operation with the school administration and staff for the wellbeing and benefit of the students in our school. It provides an opportunity for parents to get to know each other and to work together in a volunteer capacity to support the activities of the school. Parental involvement is offered at a variety of levels and brings enormous benefits for you and your child as well as St Peter’s.
How often do we meet?
We meet on a monthly basis and it is a great way of providing opportunities for parents to meet other parents and catch up with the school news! It is not necessary to attend all meetings, just those that you can. Who attends? All are welcome to the P&F meetings and in regular attendance are the committee members, some teachers/staff and the Principal.
