School Canteen

The School Canteen independently operates as a service to the school community with the assistance of volunteers and is managed by the St. Peter’s Ladies Auxiliary.

In accordance with our Healthy Eating Policy, we believe a healthy eating plan is fundamental not only to add life to years but also to add years to life. We are committed to setting a good example by promoting and offering healthy eating options.  We aim to make healthy eating an easy and informed choice for the entire school community.

 

Our responsibilities are:

  • To ensure that all food and drink available at the canteen will be approved Green or Amber category foods based on the Victorian School Canteen Association’s Buyers Guide which accords with government guidelines.

  • To ensure that the canteen will provide Green category foods 5 days a week with Amber category foods to be available on only three days a week. The only exception to this rule is non Amber food days in excess of 30°C (as determined by the canteen manager in consultation with the school principal), on these days the canteen may sell frozen ice blocks/icy poles.

  • The Canteen is open each day during First Break (11.00am – 11.40am) and is staffed by a Canteen Manager and by volunteer parents. Volunteers will be required to process orders, prepare meals and snacks and sell from the canteen window. Volunteers are always welcome to assist with the operation of the canteen.

  • Price lists are made available at the beginning of each term.

 

Lunch orders are to be written on a brown paper bag (with child’s name, grade and amount of money enclosed) are to be placed their class canteen tubs at the beginning of the day.

School Organisation

Daily Timetable

The following timetable is a general guide to lesson and break times for students on an average school day.

 

  • 7.00am – 8.45am: Before School Care Program (Onsite)

  • 8.35am: Before school duty commences

  • 8.45am: Students to be in their classrooms getting organised for the day ahead

  • 9.00am: Official start of the school day

  • 9.00am – 11.00am: First Learning Session

  • 10.55am: Healthy fruit snack

  • 10.55am: Eating time begins

  • 11.00am – 11.40am: First break

  • 11.40am – 1.40pm: Second Learning Session

  • 1.40pm: Eating time begins

  • 1.45pm – 2.15pm: Second break

  • 2.15pm – 3.15pm: Third Learning Session

  • 3.15 pm: School day ends and after school duty commence

  • 3.30 pm: After school duty concludes. Any children not picked up are sent to after-school care.

3.15pm – 6.30pm: After School Care Program (Onsite)

 

Attendance

Regular attendance at school is vitally important.

 

Absence

If your child cannot attend school:

  • please call the school and leave a message on the School Absence line,

  • send a written note to school on the child’s first day back at school or

  • complete the Student Absence note below

 

Any planned extended absences, for more than two days (eg; family holiday during school term), needs to be reported to the school in writing, prior to absence.

 

Late Arrival

If your child is late to school (after 9.00am) they are expected to report to the front office and sign in, before heading to their class.

 

Early Dismissal

If you need to collect your child early for an appointment, you must report to the office to sign out your child.

Please avoid collecting your child during the break times (11.00am – 11.45am) and (1.45pm – 2.15pm) without organising with the classroom teacher prior. If you have not pre organised, you will be unable to collect your child. 

 

Staff Meeting Schedule

Staff are involved in meetings and professional development from 3.30-4.30pm on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon.

Lost Property

Located inside the Performing Arts Building opposite the fish tank. If you are missing clothing, lunch boxes, water bottles etc please come and check. Please remember to LABEL all clothing, lunch containers and belongings. If you purchase items from the 2nd Hand Uniform Shoppe, please make sure you label with your child’s name.

 

Encourage your child to be responsible for their belongings by getting into the routine of checking whether they have them when they come in after breaks and when they pack their bags. If your child loses an item, encourage them to look for it where they were that day, and to remember when they had it last. This can include Specialist rooms; eg: Visual Arts, Italian, Computer Lab, Library, Makers Space, Peer Support.

CSEF – Camps, Sports & Excursions Funds

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Every Victorian child should have access to the world of learning opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps ensure that no student will miss out on the opportunity to join their classmates for important, educational and fun activities. It is part of making Victoria the Education State and the Government’s commitment to breaking the link between a student’s background and their outcomes.

 

CAMPS, SPORTS & EXCURSIONS FUND (CSEF)

CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families. If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

The annual CSEF amount per student is:

•   $150 for primary school students

•   $225 for secondary school students

 

Payments are made directly to the school and are tied to the student.

  • from March onwards each year where the parent/carer’s concession card is assessed as valid on the first day of term 1; and

  • until June 24 where the parent/carer’s concession card is assessed as valid at the end of term 2.

 

Payments are for the application year and cannot be claimed for previous years.

HOW TO APPLY

New applicants should download the form below and return to the school office WITH a copy of your concession card.

If you applied for CSEF at St Peter Apostle in the previous \year, you do not need to complete an application form this year unless there has been a change in your family circumstances. However, we still require a copy of your concession card.

You only need to complete an application form if any of the following changes have occurred

  • new student enrolments; your child has started or changed schools this year.

  • changed family circumstances; such as a change of custody, change of name, concession card number, or new siblings commencing this year.

 

Check with the school office if you are unsure.
